Lugalia credits consistency as St. Anthony's Boys Kitale reclaim East Africa hockey title

St. Anthony’s Kitale hockey head coach Kevin Lugalia has credited consistency, hard work and discipline for the school’s triumph at the East Africa Secondary School Games in Morogoro, Tanzania.

St. Anthony’s defeated arch-rivals Friends School Kamusinga 3-1 in the final to reclaim the regional hockey title.

“We trained hard and never stopped training since we won the national title this year. We played competitive friendlies and exposed the team to a high level of competition, which played a huge role in us reclaiming the title,” said Lugalia.

The Kitale side last won the East Africa title in 2018, and Lugalia believes the victory signals the team can establish another period of dominance in the competition.

“We have very organised structures in our school. There is no gap when it comes to transition, and that has helped us continue improving each and every season,” Lugalia added.

With St. Anthony’s now back on top in East Africa, Lugalia says the team will take a short break before turning its attention to next season.

“We will have some rest after the competition in Tanzania, then begin our preparations for next year. When you are a champion, everyone trains to beat you, and that is what we have to be careful about as we plan to defend our national and regional titles,” the coach said.
