Liverpool Agree to Sign Burnley Striker Danny Ings

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign striker Danny Ings from relegated Burnley on July 1 after his Turf Moor contract expires subject to a medical.

The forward will move to Anfield this summer after agreeing terms but the length of his deal has not yet been announced.

He has opted for Merseyside despite interest from Tottenham, who had been willing to pay £12m (in Kenya Shillings) for Ings in order to discuss a transfer with him provided the bid was accepted.

Burnley are due a compensation fee for the player because he is under 24 but they have rejected Liverpool’s undisclosed offer and talks are ongoing as the two clubs bid to reach a settlement.

If they are unable to do so, the amount will be determined by the Premier League, who would have to form a compensation committee to deal with the case.

Bournemouth, Ings’ previous club, will also be due a small amount for the part they played in his development as a teenager before he left in 2011.

The 22-year-old scored 21 times in the 2013/14 season to help Burnley win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

He then netted 11 times in 35 appearances last season and although his goals were not enough to keep the Lancashire club up, his performances have earned him praise.

Ings, capped nine times for England at U21 level and having scored four goals, has also been tipped for a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s full squad.

The striker becomes Liverpool’s second signing of the summer after James Milner agreed to join them from Manchester City last week.
