Linda Mwananchi leaders urged to join Amisi's new PM party amid registration hurdles

Opposition leaders have invited the Linda Mwananchi movement to join the newly launched People’s Renaissance Movement (PM) party or the broader United Alternative Government, citing 'frustrations' by the Registrar of Political Parties in registering the outfit.

Speaking during the official launch of the PM party, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa said Linda Mwananchi should consider joining the outfit if its efforts to secure registration as a political party continue to face hurdles.

“If Linda Mwananchi is being frustrated in its efforts to register as a political party, we call on Linda Mwananchi to join the PM or alternatively join our united opposition coalition,” Wamalwa stated. 

The launch brought together opposition leaders seeking to build a united front against President William Ruto and his administration.

Led by Saboti lawmaker and PM party leader Caleb Amisi, the new political outfit said it would champion economic justice and represent young people and the reform agenda that emerged from the June 2024 protests.

“We hereby launch the People’s Renaissance Movement to deliver the country from economic renaissance and economic justice and to form a government of the people, by the people, for the people,” Amisi stated.

Wamalwa described PM as a new party joining the opposition’s ‘one-term’ movement, which is seeking to prevent Ruto from securing a second term in the 2027 election.

“We are here to welcome the PRM Party, the new party born today under the one-term movement,” Wamalwa stated. 

The United Green Movement (UGM) party leader David Maraga said the opposition was seeking to build alliances among like-minded parties ahead of the election.

“We are looking to form alliances with similar parties as we send the current regime to Kamiti in 2027. We are here to offer Kenyans an alternative,” Maraga noted.

The launch comes as political parties and movements step up grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election, with opposition leaders seeking to consolidate their support and build a broader coalition.

PM party said it would focus on mobilising young people and advancing the reform agenda while working with other opposition parties to challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Peoples Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua urged young people to register as voters and participate in the 2027 election.

“The one-term movement has shown that Kenyans are ready for new leadership, but we must organize and mobilize to make that change possible,” Karua remarked.
