The late Nicholas Biwott alias Total Man was a renowned business mogul with vast investments in both Kenya and abroad. People close to him presumed him to be quite shy and private.

Standing at 5 foot tall, the well-achieved politician participated in the 2000 Commission for Constitutional Reform of Kenya, he was the only MP who rejected the 2005 draft constitution saying it will promote tribalism in the country. Later, the draft was rejected by Kenyans  in November 21, 2005  referendum.

Born in Chebior village in  Keiyo District, Biwott served as a Member of Parliament for Keiyo-Marakwet and later the Keiyo South Constituency for 28 years. He held several ministerial posts, including  Minister of East African and Regional Co-operation and Energy among others.

The late veteran politician built and funded The Biwott Secondary School and the Maria Soti Educational Centre, which is named after his mother Maria Soti, among other schools.

The Vision Party chairman was known to be overly cautious when it came to security, from swoping cars abruptly during his transitions to  being keen on what he is served.

It is during the first year of his tenure as the Minister of Science and Technology (1982-1983)that Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) was established to facilitate scientific researches in Kenya.

Besides being a philanthropist, he was a democrat who spearheaded development in the state. The first president, Jomo Kenyatta and president Mwai Kibaki spoke highly of his performance in the cabinet.

Rest in peace Kipyator Nicholas Kiprono arap Biwott (1940-2017)
