Legendary Kenyan rally navigator Abdul Sidi laid to rest

Sidi’s active involvement in Kenyan motorsport spanned more than four decades, leaving an indelible mark as both a formidable co-driver and a leading media figure. 

A true stalwart of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally, he tackled the grueling event 18 times, remarkably reaching the finish line on 15 occasions.

Throughout his distinguished career in the cockpit, Sidi navigated alongside prominent Kenyan drivers including Patrick Njiru, Phineas Kimathi, and Sammy Aslam, earning notable category victories in Group N at the 1984 WRC Safari Rally and Formula 2 in 1999.

Beyond his competitive achievements, Sidi served as a vital voice for the sport as a journalist and columnist, while dedicating immense energy to grassroots development. 

Through his voluntary training initiatives, he generously mentored and groomed generations of upcoming rally navigators, drivers, and marshals. 

Tributes continue to pour in from across the global and local motorsport fraternity, honoring his lifelong devotion and monumental contributions to Kenyan rallying.
