Former Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) chief executive Ezekiel Mutua has been ordered to pay musician Hubert Nakitare, popularly known as Nonini, Ksh.3 million after a court found that his remarks about the artist were defamatory.

Milimani Commercial Magistrate James Gitau awarded Nonini Ksh.2.5 million in general damages and an additional Ksh.500,000 in exemplary and aggravated damages in a judgment delivered on October 26, 2026.

The court further directed Mutua to remove the impugned statements from his social media account within 14 days and pay the costs of the case.

In his ruling, Magistrate Gitau held that the disputed remarks had the potential to undermine the musician's reputation by portraying him as someone who had fled Kenya to avoid facing the law.
