The two-time league champion registered a narrow 1-0 win thanks to Margaret Kunihira’s second-half strike to stay on course for their record third title in a row.
The law enforcers had missed a couple of goal-scoring opportunities in the first half before Kunihira broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute to grab them the maximum points.
“The match was tough but we are happy that we won. The win was very important for us because we needed to open the gap on the top of the table to ease the pressure from our rivals,” Vijago told Citizen Digital.
The CAF license A holder is wary of the stiff competition within the league and wants the Bullets to avoid dropping their laurels at any given point as they eye the coveted prize with rivals Ulinzi Starlets and Vihiga Queens knocking.
“The league is very competitive, and it has grown, and that is a positive sign. However, we have to remain vigilant and ensure we win all the remaining matches,” said Vijago.
“Losing a single match means you can lose the grip on the title race. We are confident we will continue to play at the top level and retain our title,” he added.
Vijago also praised Uganda's lethal attacker Kunihira, who leads the scoring charts on 12 goals, for her goal-scoring prowess that has helped Bullets remain on top.
The 21-year-old has been a revelation at the Police Sacco grounds since signing for Bullets last year.
And with the reigning champions having the highest number of players called to the Kenya U 20 camp, Vijago hailed the quality at their disposal noting the teenage sensations’ hard work and talent as key to their call-ups.
Bullets have six players in the Jackeline Juma-led side, led by Captain Halima Imbachi and regular center-back Elizabeth Ochaka.
“The players who have been called are talented and dedicated, and they have earned their place in the national team. I’m confident they can lead Rising Starlets to World Cup qualification,” said Vijago.
Kenya Police Bullets currently sit on top of the log on 31 points after 13 matches with Ulinzi Starlets, Vihiga Queens, and Trinity Starlets sitting second, third and fourth respectively on 29, 26 and 24 points.
