Kisped Women’s Football Club have embarked on a rebuilding mission as the second leg of the Women’s Premier League kicks off, following a disappointing run of results in the opening phase of the season.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, head coach Daniel Minjis revealed that the club has reinforced its squad with new signings, largely made up of young players who recently completed their secondary school education, citing financial constraints as a key factor behind the recruitment strategy.
Minjis said the decision to invest in youthful talent is aimed at laying a strong foundation for the future while also injecting fresh energy into the team as they battle to improve their league standing.
" We are rebuilding; eight new signings have joined us from secondary schools. We are having an eye on them to learn the club's philosophy and also gel well with the rest of the squad," he said.
Kisped’s struggles continued last weekend when they suffered a 2–0 defeat to Ulinzi Starlets, a result that further underlined their difficult campaign.
However, the tactician remains optimistic ahead of their next fixture against Vihiga Queens scheduled for Saturday.
According to Minjis, the technical bench has been working to address the mistakes that cost the team in recent matches, and he believes his players are mentally and tactically ready to fight for a positive result.
We have a fixture against Vihiga next; I believe we will correct our mistakes in our last game against Ulinzi. I urge the fans to show up because I'm optimistic about getting a positive outcome.” He noted.
After 13 league matches, Kisped have managed just one victory and one draw, losing 11 times to collect four points. The poor run leaves them second from bottom on the log, deep in the relegation battle.
With the second leg now underway, all eyes will be on whether Minjis’ youthful squad can spark a turnaround and steer the club away from the danger zone in the remaining fixtures.
