Kwale County has been ranked the best performing county in Kenya in the 2024 County Budget Transparency Survey (CBTS), outshining all 46 other devolved units. The county earned top scores—83 points for its Annual Development Plan (ADP) and a perfect 100 for its Finance Act—in the survey conducted by Bajeti Hub.

The achievement was officially recognized during an awards presentation held at the County Headquarters, where leaders, stakeholders, and community representatives gathered to celebrate the milestone.

Governor Fatuma Achani attributed the recognition to Kwale’s commitment to inclusive and community-driven budgeting.

“Our budget is community-driven. We listen to what the community needs and involve them through public participation and planning,” said Governor Achani, reaffirming her administration’s resolve to make transparency a central pillar of governance.

Reena Atuma, Policy Advisor at the Coast Regional Budget Hub, commended Kwale’s approach, highlighting its exemplary public engagement in planning and executing development projects.

“We commend Governor Achani’s administration for embracing transparency as a tool for inclusive development and accountability,” she noted.

Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo echoed the sentiment, praising Governor Achani’s people-centered leadership and pledging continued support to institutionalize transparency and openness across county operations.

Governor Achani further emphasized the importance of civic involvement in governance, vowing to strengthen mechanisms that promote citizen participation, improve oversight, and ensure public funds are allocated in line with local priorities.
