KU Pirates, Kitui Raptors locked in tight playoff battle

KU Pirates and Kitui Raptors are tied 1-1 in their quest for a place in the final of the National Men’s Basketball Division Two League after splitting their quarter-final playoff matches over the weekend.
KU Pirates claimed an 83-66 victory in Game One on Saturday before Kitui Raptors bounced back to win Game Two 66-64 on Sunday at USIU Grounds.
Kitui started strongly in Sunday's encounter, dominating the opening quarter 24-9 before KU responded with a 15-9 run in the second quarter to trail 33-24 at halftime.
The Pirates carried their momentum into the third quarter, outscoring Kitui 24-14 to take a one-point lead heading into the final period. However, Raptors held their nerve in the closing quarter, winning 19-16 to secure a narrow two-point victory and force a decisive Game Three.
In the Women’s Division One League, NBK Magics drew level with Strathmore Swords 2 after claiming a 53-45 victory in Game Two of their quarter-final playoff series at the same venue.
Strathmore made a bright start, taking the first quarter 17-8 before NBK responded with a 15-7 run in the second quarter to cut the deficit to one point at halftime, with the students leading 24-23.
NBK took control after the break, winning the third quarter 13-9 before sealing the victory with a 17-12 advantage in the final quarter.
