Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Kakamega County branch chairman Lazarus Makokha has refuted claims that they are behind the disqualification of Butere Boys as Western region football champions.

Makokha’s sentiments come barely a few days after The Exodus were stripped of their crown on irregularities claims—after beating Musingu High 7-6 on penalties in the final, staged at Mumias Sports Complex, two weeks ago.

"What we want to clarify is that an appeal is not done by us once the tournament has already concluded.

“Cases like those are usually taken to the office of the county director of education, who then assigns those duties to a committee of education officers known as Quality Assurance Officers.

“Those officers are then sent to the school alleged to have fielded ineligible students, and then they conduct their investigation.

“After that, they bring us the findings of their investigation with the final ruling," Makokha said.

The disqualification occurred after Kakamega High lodged a complaint with the Kakamega County Director of Education's office; the case was then taken to education quality assurance officers.

The ruling handed Kakamega Green Commandoes the first runner-up slot, while Musingu High were crowned champions, with both representing Kakamega County at the regional games in Bungoma.

"According to the investigation from the county director, they found out that two students from Butere exceeded the eligible days for students to play football in these school competitions.

Therefore, Butere have now been stripped of their championship, and that means Musingu will represent Kakamega County as the champions, with Green Commandos going as the runners-up," Makokha told Mulembe FM.

Musingu are in Pool A alongside Bukembe, Mbale Boys, and Nambale, while Kakamega are in Pool B with Emusire Boys, Kibabii, and Kolanya.
