Defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) moved to within one victory of qualifying for the final of the National Women’s Basketball Premier League after taking a 2-0 lead over TH3 Swish in their best-of-five semifinal playoff series.

The Dockers defeated Swish 62-49 in Game Two at Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi, last night, a day after cruising to an 80-42 victory in the opening match.

The series now shifts to KPA’s home court, Makande Gymnasium in Mombasa, where Game Three will be played on Saturday.

KPA need just one more victory to seal their place in the final, with Games Four and Five scheduled for Sunday and Monday respectively, if required.

The Dockers made a strong start, winning the opening quarter 16-12 before extending their advantage with a 20-14 victory in the second period to take a 36-26 lead into halftime.

KPA maintained their dominance after the break, winning the third quarter 13-08 before Swish mounted a late fightback to take the final period 15-13.

Meanwhile, the other semifinal between giants Equity Hawks and Stanbic Aces is evenly poised at 1-1 after Equity bounced back to win Game Two 70-37 last night.

Stanbic had opened the series with a 66-60 victory in Game One on Thursday.

Equity dominated from the start, taking the opening quarter 26-12 before producing another commanding 20-04 performance in the second quarter to establish a 46-16 halftime lead.

The two sides shared the third quarter 12-12 before Equity wrapped up the match with a 12-09 victory in the final period.

The series continues today with Game Three from 6PM at Nyayo Gymnasium followed by Game Four on Saturda and a potential decider on Sunday if necessary.
