Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) produced a commanding performance to brush aside Nairobi Prisons by straight sets (25-14, 25-15, 25-20) in a dominant display as the second leg of the 2025/2026 Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Men’s National League served off at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Thursday.

The Portsmen, who sit second in the standings with 10 points from four matches after a strong first leg, controlled proceedings from start to finish against a Nairobi Prisons side struggling at the foot of the table with just two points from four outings.

KPA's sharp attacking combinations proved too much for their opponents, who found it difficult to mount any meaningful resistance.

The Portsmen raced through the first two sets with clinical efficiency before wrapping up the third in convincing fashion to secure maximum points.

Head coach James Ontere was pleased with his charges' execution of the game plan.

“I think the boys have worked hard, they have played the way we had planned. That was Nairobi Prisons, I hope tomorrow we will also follow instructions so that we win as we have done today,” Ontere said.

The win keeps KPA firmly in the title conversation behind league leaders Kenya Prisons (12 points), with the Portsmen showing the consistency needed to challenge for silverware in the second leg.

For Nairobi Prisons assistant coach Daniel Wasike, the defeat highlighted areas for urgent improvement ahead of their next outing against Rift Valley Prisons on Saturday.

“Yes we have lost the game we have just played. We know KPA is a big team but personally I don’t think we have played according to the levels we had expected. I now have to go prepare the boys and fix where I’ve seen there’s a problem. On Saturday when we play the team from the Rift Valley, there will be a difference,” Wasike stated.

In other matches, Kenya Army edged NYS 3-1 sets (25-17, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22) while Trailblazers came from behind to overcome Rift Valley Prisons 3-1 (25-27, 25-22, 25-13, 25-14).

At the same venue, KDF edged out KAPU 3-2 sets in a thrilling five-set battle, while Equity Bank defeated Eldowas 3-1 sets.

The second leg action continues tomorrow, all through to Sunday, with exciting match-ups lined up.
