KMPDU lauds Governor Nassir as Mombasa promotes 70 healthcare workers

Mombasa County has handed over promotion letters to 70 healthcare workers in a move aimed at improving staff welfare and career progression in the health sector.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Wednesday, Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) National Chairman Dr. Abidan Mwachi commended Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir for prioritising healthcare workers’ welfare.

Mwachi noted that since Nassir assumed office, the county had maintained timely salary payments, with all statutory deductions remitted on schedule.

He contrasted Mombasa’s record with that of other counties, where salary delays and failure to remit statutory deductions remain common challenges for healthcare workers.

The KMPDU chairman said Mombasa had, for the first time since the advent of devolution, taken proactive steps to regularise healthcare workers’ welfare without coercion or industrial disputes.

He added that healthcare workers were satisfied with the seriousness the county government had accorded the health sector.

Mwachi cautioned against abandoning what was working in favour of unfulfilled promises elsewhere.

He urged other county governments to benchmark Mombasa’s approach to healthcare management and adopt measures aimed at improving the welfare of medical professionals.
