Kitengela residents decry dust, want feeder roads tarmacked

Kitengela town is known as a hub for fresh ‘nyama choma’ and a relaxing family getaway spot for city residents.

However, locals now want the relevant bodies to help preserve this glory by constructing access road to tarmac status.

“This will help reduce the dust in Kitengela. At times it becomes difficult getting customers as our eateries become dusty,” a trader said.

The social media landscape has painted the town in Kajiado County as the hub of dust, with memes from left, right and centre.

The old Namanga road which leads to residential areas and adjacent schools is in a sorry state.

Over the years, bodaboda riders have protested, urging the authorities to address the matter.

Recently, there have been efforts to reduce the dust by applying gravel on the unpaved roads.

A section of Old Namanga road has also been reworked by the Kenya Urban Road Authority (KURA).

However residents hope that the grace will be extended to cover the entire route.

Some locals who live in far flung estates are forced to pay almost double the amount. For bodaboda operators, it is good business.

“Customers heading to areas such as Milimani have to part with an extra coin due to the state of the road,” a bodaboda rider said.

The residents have called on the relevant bodies to come up with a lasting solution to the perennial issue.
