An elderly man narrowly escaped death last night after his house was allegedly set ablaze by one of his sons in Katito, Nyakach Sub-County, in what is suspected to be a land and inheritance dispute.

The suspect is said to have set the house on fire while his father was asleep.

The elderly man managed to escape unharmed, although some of his belongings were destroyed in the fire.

Andrew Sunga, the eldest son in the family, claims his younger brother, suspected of setting the fire, has previously attempted to harm their father.

A clan elder from Kamiyolo/Kobuya village says efforts to resolve the family dispute and restore peace have been unsuccessful, raising fears that the conflict could eventually turn fatal.

Human rights activist Abdallah Otieno has condemned the incident, calling on local administrators and police to intervene, investigate the matter and ensure the suspect is brought to justice.

The incident has renewed concerns over escalating family disputes linked to land and inheritance, with calls for urgent intervention to prevent further violence.
