According to a police report, the body of Barnabus Machoni Kitoyi was discovered inside the Christ Nyamemiso Church's toilet with a black piece of cloth tied around his neck and fastened to the toilet roof rafter.
A machete was also found placed conspicuously on the toilet door.
Officers say the scene appeared undisturbed, raising suspicion that the toilet could be a secondary scene.
The deceased’s stomach was swollen, his shirt was blood-stained around the collar—believed to be blood that may have oozed from the mouth.
Police further established that Kitoyi lived alone in a semi-permanent house about one kilometer away from where his body was found.
The body has been moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
Preliminary reports indicate the deceased may have been embroiled in a land dispute with neighbors, a case that is currently before the Kegati Chief’s Office and was set for hearing on the 8th of December.
