The beneficiaries were selected from 11 sub-locations across Kajiado West, Kajiado East and Kajiado Central, with each sub-location providing five students under the community education support programme.
Each beneficiary will receive Ksh.50,000 annually to support their studies.
Speaking during the scholarship award ceremony, KCDT Director Dr Stephen Moiko said the initiative aims to ensure financial constraints do not prevent deserving students from accessing higher education.
"Education is one of the most impactful investments we can make in our communities. Through this scholarship programme, we are providing young people with an opportunity to pursue higher education, develop valuable skills and realise their full potential as future professionals and community leaders," he said.
He added that the Trust would monitor beneficiaries' academic progress throughout their studies and beyond graduation to assess their transition into employment and other livelihood opportunities.
The selection process prioritised students from economically disadvantaged households, orphans and persons with disabilities. Applicants were required to present admission letters from recognised TVET institutions, while interviews were conducted in areas where applications exceeded the available scholarship slots.
The exercise was overseen by a joint panel comprising members of respective Area Development Committees and KCDT/Kipeto staff to promote transparency and community participation.
Ministry of Education representative in Kajiado County Janet Sereu welcomed the initiative, saying such interventions complement government efforts to expand access to education.
"Such interventions play an important role in complementing government efforts to expand access to education, particularly for learners from vulnerable and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Investing in these young people is investing in the future of our communities and the country at large," she said.
The scholarship programme forms part of KCDT's broader community development efforts, with education identified as a key avenue for improving skills, employment opportunities and economic empowerment among young people.
