Olympic marathon defending champion Eliud Kipchoge and 1500m and
5000m world record holder Faith Kipyegon will highlight high-profile athletes
that will grace the annual Chemususu Dam Half Marathon, slated for November 11
in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County.
According to Matthew Birir, the race director, defending
champions Daisy Cherotich and Emanuel Kemboi have also expressed their intention
to defend their honors in this year’s edition, in which registration is ongoing
for Ksh1000 individuals and Ksh10,000 for corporations.
“We are progressing well with the preparation and we
are happy that the defending champions for both men and women’s races have confirmed
their attendance.
Birir says the winners will receive Sh250,000 as a
reward with the funds raised from the event set to facilitate the establishment
of a standard training facility for athletes.
As a precursor to the event, the organizers will stage
a farming extension services clinic Friday, November 10th, alongside
awareness campaigns on sanitary hygiene for girls.
“We intend to
transform our society using this race. On Friday we will have farmers clinics
where they will be taught various farming skills.
“We will also
have education on menstrual hygiene for girls, along with making donations
that will help secure sanitary towels for school going girls.”
