The national government will continue investing in the establishment of new Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campuses while expanding existing facilities to increase the country's capacity to train healthcare professionals, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said.

Kindiki said the government recognises the role played by medical training colleges in producing healthcare workers needed to support the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

He spoke during a visit to the KMTC Kiambaa Campus in Karuri, Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu County, where he inspected ongoing construction of a new building block.

The Deputy President was accompanied by Kiambaa MP John Njuguna Kawanjiku and Thika Town MP Alice Ng'ang'a.

Kindiki said continued investment in KMTC campuses would involve both opening additional institutions and increasing the facilities and capacities of existing campuses.

The government, he said, considers the training of more medical professionals an important part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

During the visit, Kindiki also cautioned young people against drug and substance abuse.

He urged students to safeguard their future, saying the country will increasingly depend on the younger generation to take up leadership and other responsibilities in the years ahead.
