Two teams from Kigwa Ridge Preparatory School, located along Kiambu Road, have clinched top honors in their categories at the just-concluded World Robot Olympiad (WRO).
The teams excelled in the Robo Missions, Elementary, and Innovators categories, presenting a groundbreaking project: a solar-powered “Agro-Bot” capable of ploughing, planting, and irrigating farmland.
School principal Victor Omondi praised the students’ ingenuity, noting that the achievement underlines the school’s commitment to equipping learners with future-ready skills.
“We are proud of our students and hope this inspires more young learners to embrace coding, robotics, and mechanization—particularly in areas like food production where technology is key to boosting output.”
Year One robotics teacher, Sarah Mugo, emphasized the importance of early exposure to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.
“We worked on this project with the children and are thrilled it has reached competition level,” Ms. Mugo said.
The innovation reflects the 2025 WRO theme, The Future of Robots, which invited participants to explore how robotics can tackle global challenges and transform human life—from reshaping future cities and expanding life beyond Earth to improving food security and sustainability.
Mr. Omondi noted that food production remains a powerful motivator for young innovators.
“Our Agro-Bot demonstrates how robotics can be a solution for farmers, while also offering learners a pathway into the fast-evolving world of AI and automation.”
