Kihumbuini Stadium redevelopment 70 per cent complete, Sakaja says

Sakaja said key sections of the project, including the terraces and changing rooms, had been completed, with work now focused on the playing surface and other remaining facilities.

“I am pleased with the progress of Kihumbuini Stadium. The works are over 70 per cent complete. The terraces are ready and the changing rooms are also ready. We are now working on the turf to be laid on the ground soon, together with the shades,” Sakaja said.

He said the upgraded facility would serve residents of Kangemi, Westlands and neighbouring areas by providing space for sporting and community activities.

“This will be of great essence to the people of Kangemi and Westlands in general,” Sakaja said.

Sakaja said Kihumbuini Stadium had lagged behind in infrastructure development but was now undergoing rehabilitation alongside other county sports facilities.

“This stadium has for long been left behind, but it is now making great progress. With the works already ongoing in our stadiums, Dandora will be one of the best,” Sakaja said.

He said similar works were underway at Woodley Stadium and City Stadium as the county seeks to improve sports facilities across Nairobi.

“Kihumbuini will be ready in a few months. Next year we shall be here to launch it. The same works are ongoing at Woodley Stadium and City Stadium to make sure that we elevate these estate stadiums to the level they need to be,” he said.

The redevelopment works include improvements to the playing surface, terraces, changing rooms, shades and other supporting facilities.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to provide residents with a facility for football and other sporting activities, as well as community events.
