Kenyan students among 131 teams in Shenzhen for Huawei ICT Competition

The annual event that kicked off on Tuesday, June 2, has been graced by students from Kenyan universities and colleges and also faculty members from respective institions.
The global competition features more than five areas of expertise, including Practice, Innovation, Programming, Teaching, Challenge, and Entrepreneur.
The practice competition attracted more than 210,000 students worldwide. The majority of whom were left out after multiple rounds of regional and national competitions.
Only 131 teams managed to advance to the global final of the competition, representing more than 40 countries.
Tracks covered in the competition included, Network, Cloud, Computing and Ascend AI. According to Huawei, the tracks were designed to assess students’ ICT knowledge, technical skills and their teamwork.
Some of the focus areas covered in the Network track were data communication, data centre network and security and wireless local area network technologies. Further participant expertise was evaluated on cloud services, cloud native technologies and artificial intelligence in the Cloud track.
Those who opted for the Computing Track covered openEuler, openGauss and Kunpeng application development.
Also, participants who had chosen the Ascend AI track, shifted from AI fundamentals to the full stack Ascend AI platform, model training and tuning as well as model inference and application development.
The technology company released Ascend AI software during the Ascend Innovation 2020 Conference with an aim of bringing AI to reality.
At Shenzhen, the students will gain impactful insights from top technology leaders from the company.

Together with our partners, we aim to build a new generation of secure and intelligent networks," Tang Guojun, General Manager of Huawei Cloud Academy, said.
Also, during the opening ceremony, Wuger Xue, observed that AI is scaling rapidly and that the networks connecting these computing resources played a decisive role in shaping the security and accessibility of AI.
The Huawei ICT Competition is an annual global event designed for students and teachers from colleges and universities.
The final results of the competitions will be announced at the Closing & Awards Ceremony on June 5.
