Kenya Railways has announced the suspension of commuter train services in Nairobi ahead of Azimio la Umoja-led anti-government demonstrations on Wednesday.
In a statement on Tuesday, Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga noted that the routes that will be affected by the suspension include; The Nairobi Commuter Rail Service trains serving between Nairobi Central station and Lukenya, Syokimau, Embakasi Village, Ruiru, Kahawa West and Limuru.
the move is informed by the fact that trains and railway stations have been vandalised during past demos.
"Commuter train services will temporarily be suspended on Wednesday, July 19, 2023," said Mainga.
"This is a precautionary measure arising from recent incidents where our stations were vandalised and trains stoned, putting passengers' lives at great risk."
Kenya Railways will communicate when services on the routes will return to normal.
