Kenya Police, making a return to Africa’s top-tier club competition, will open their CAF Champions League campaign against Somalia’s Mogadishu City Club.

This is after the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round draws held in in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The competition’s preliminary round is set for 19–21 September, with return legs scheduled for 26–28 September 2025.

A win over the Somali outfit would book them a second-round date with either South Sudan’s Jamus FC Juba or Sudanese giants Al Hilal, with the victor on aggregate advancing to the coveted group stage.

For Nairobi United, history beckons. The Naibois, who stunned Gor Mahia in the FKF Cup final to secure their maiden continental ticket, will face NEC FC of Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round.

Victory would set up a tantalizing second-round clash against either Sudan’s Al Ahli Madani or Tunisian heavyweights Étoile Sportive du Sahel.

This is uncharted territory for the newly crowned FKF Cup champions, who were drawn from Pot 2 alongside regional and continental hopefuls such as Rayon Sport (Rwanda), Flambeau du Centre (Burundi), Azam FC (Tanzania) and Dekadaha FC (Somalia).

Kenya Police will be eager to improve on last year’s showing in the CAF Confederation Cup, where they bowed out in the second preliminary round to Egyptian giants Zamalek after edging out Ethiopian opposition in the first round.

With a more experienced squad and strong domestic form, the Law Enforcers are targeting a breakthrough into the group stages.

The stakes are high for both clubs — not just in terms of prestige, but also financially, with group stage qualifications offering lucrative prize money and exposure.

For Nairobi United, the challenge will be navigating a debut campaign against seasoned African opponents, while for Kenya Police, the goal is redemption and progression.

As continental football returns next month, all eyes will be on the two Kenyan representatives to see if they can carry the country’s flag deep into the competition.
