The government through the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has launched the National Skills Inventory following a directive issued by President William Ruto during a cabinet meeting on the 15th of January.

The employment data collection drive is geared towards mapping all available skills within the country, to support the skills migration agenda.

This comes a week after the launch of the interdepartmental committee on the National Inventory Skills, tasked with the establishment of a framework to portray the skills of all Kenyans seeking employment, as a measure to address the present unemployment challenge.

"The rollout of the National Skills Inventory will play a critical role in enhancing the job placement of unemployed youth. This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing youth employment, and is well aligned to the constitution of Kenya which affirms the right of the youth to access employment," said Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Labour Shadrack Mwadime.

All unemployed persons are required to register their skills data on the National Skills Inventory, through a link posted on the Ministry’s website.

Employers, both public and private, have been directed to submit their job orders and job opportunities on the inventory and to also submit their annual employment returns to the National Employment Authority by the 29th of February.
