Games organisers have confirmed the list of nations that will compete in the fast-growing discipline, which made its Commonwealth Games debut at Birmingham 2022.
Following a strong reception from fans four years ago, the 3x3 basketball programme has been expanded from eight teams per gender to 12 for Glasgow 2026, underlining the sport’s rising popularity worldwide.
Kenya made a strong first impression in Birmingham, with the men’s team reaching the quarter-finals before falling 20–15 to Australia to finish fifth overall.
The women’s side also exited at the same stage, losing 21–12 to England and ending the tournament in fifth place.
At this year’s Games, the Kenyan men will face Australia, Cayman Islands, Fiji, Guyana, Jamaica, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Scotland, Singapore and one European nation yet to be confirmed.
The women’s team will compete against Australia, Cayman Islands, Fiji, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, Singapore, Tonga and Uganda.
3x3 basketball is played by teams of three using a single hoop and a 12-second shot clock, with matches lasting 10 minutes or ending once a team reaches 21 points.
Glasgow 2026 will bring together 3,000 athletes from 74 nations across 10 sports and six para-sports, making it the UK’s biggest sporting event of the year.
