Detectives in Nairobi have arrested four suspects and rescued
a toddler who had allegedly been stolen from the child's mother in the Embakasi
area more than a week ago.
The four suspects, Callen Moraa, Frida Moraa, John Oyweri
and Geoffrey Murayi, were nabbed on Thursday, July 16, in the Kware Mabatini
area.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations
(DCI), the baby went missing on July 8 in Pipeline, Embakasi, when the mother,
who was searching for a job, met a man who allegedly promised to help her
secure employment at a nearby hotel.
Police said the woman had her child with her and, after
explaining that she had no one to look after the baby, the man allegedly
convinced her to leave the child with a woman he claimed operated a nearby
business while they finalised the job arrangements.
“Panicked, the mother rushed back to reclaim her child, only
to discover that both the woman and her baby were nowhere to be found. With
both suspects unreachable, she reported the incident at Kware Police Station,”
DCI stated.
After the woman filed a report, detectives launched
investigations that culminated in the arrest of the quartet on July 16 in the
Kware Mabatini area.
Police said a search at one of the suspects' houses led to
the recovery of the missing child, who was found safe and has since been
reunited with the mother.
