Kenya drops five places in FIFA rank after S. Sudan defeat

The national men’s football team has dropped four places into 109th in the latest FIFA rankings published by the world governing body on Thursday.

The Harambee Stars played two international friendly matches this month, beating Qatar 2-1 in Al-Wakrah and then losing 1-0 to South Sudan in Nairobi.

Kenya dropped 6.93 points to a cumulative of 1184.14 with that particular drop attributed to the defeat against the lowly ranked South Sudan.

South Sudan fed off that victory to gain the most points within the Confederation of African Football (CAF) region although they remained at position 167.

Morocco (13th), Senegal (20th), Tunisia (29th), Algeria (34th) and Egypt (35th) remained unchanged as the continent’s highest ranked nations.

Mali (49th) and Côte d’Ivoire (50th) moved up two spots apiece to reclaim their positions amongst the top 50.

Following their 1-0 triumph over Ecuador and a 3-0 away success against Bolivia in their opening CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, Argentina (1st) tighten their grip at the summit of the world rank.

Second place France lost some ground on the Albiceleste after suffering a 2-1 friendly defeat at the hands of Germany.

Meanwhile, Brazil (3rd), England (4th) and Belgium (5th) retain their places in a top five that remains unchanged from the July 2023 edition of the global ranking.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 26 October.
