Captain Vincent Onyala, George Oroo, Festus Shiasi, Nigel Amaitsa, and Samuel Asati head to Wales for the inaugural Ultimate Sevens Championship in Cardiff this Saturday.

The setback however gives head coach Andrew Amonde an opportunity to use the second-string players in his pursuit to retain the Christie Sevens and National Sevens Circuit titles.

Fresh off a thrilling 12–10 victory over arch-rivals Kabras Sugar to claim the Embu Sevens title, the Bankers have been placed in Pool A alongside Kenya Harlequin, Masinde Muliro University, and Club Afrique.

KCB need only a semi-final appearance at the Christie Sevens to successfully retain their National Sevens Circuit crown.

Kibabii University head coach Peter Wamoto remains confident that the circuit leaders have the firepower to cross the finish line despite a depleted squad.

“The five are very key players to KCB. Their absence will be felt, but I believe KCB as a team have enough depth to defend the title,” said Wamoto.

Wamoto also noted that international fixtures like the Ultimate Sevens offer invaluable experience that will ultimately strengthen Kenya’s national setup.

“These will be great additions to the national sevens team Shujaa because of the exposure and experience the team will get from the tournament because of the high level of competition,” added Wamoto.

However, the youthful tactician urged the Kenya Rugby Union to ensure future overseas opportunities are distributed more broadly across the domestic game.

“I feel like this kind of program should be extended to other clubs in the tournament so that we can have a variety of players in the country get the experience,” stated the head coach.
