Two-time African club champions KCB got their 2026 African Club Championship campaign off to a commanding start with a straight-sets victory over Nigeria’s Vipers and Partners.
The Bankers secured a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-19, 25-19) in their opening Group D fixture played at the Al Ahly Sports Club Complex in Gezira.
Speaking after the match, KCB player Deborah Jesang, featuring in her third club championship, acknowledged the team’s performance.
“We made some mistakes in this game, but we rectified them. The coach invested in our young players who started today’s match, and we look forward to an even better performance in the next one,” observed Jesang.
Head coach Japheth Munala explained his decision to start with less experienced players.
“We started the game with inexperienced players to help them acclimatize to the tournament. We are not taking any team or any game for granted.
"I have told the girls that if they get an opportunity to finish the game, they should do so,” said Munala.
KCB will be looking to build on their strong start when they face ARSU Ladies in their next Group D match scheduled for later Friday, April 16, 2026.
