KCA University has partnered with Institute of Internal Auditors Kenya to champion reforms in internal auditing and corporate governance amid growing demands for accountability and technological transformation in institutions.
The discussions took centre stage during the Internal Audit
Month 2026 Commemoration held under the theme “Re-imagining Internal Audit:
Insight. Influence. Impact.”
The forum brought together regulators, corporate
consultants, academics and governance experts to deliberate on strengthening
risk assurance systems in both public and private institutions.
Speaking during the event, KCA University Vice Chancellor
Prof. Isaiah Wakindiki said universities must align training with evolving
industry needs to produce graduates capable of driving institutional
transformation.
“We are training global citizens who view internal auditing
not as a compliance checklist, but as a catalyst for institutional growth and
integrity,” he said.
The National Treasury Director of Internal Audit, CPA Jane
Micheni, challenged auditors to move beyond traditional compliance roles and
embrace strategic leadership in governance and accountability.
“Modern internal auditors must provide foresight and deliver
insights that protect public resources, optimize performance and build trust,”
she said.
Institute of Internal Auditors Kenya Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Joyce Omina said the profession must shed the perception that auditors are
merely institutional watchdogs.
“Our partnership with KCA University is a deliberate step
toward equipping future leaders with the mindset that internal audit is a
strategic partner,” she noted.
The event also featured panel discussions involving
governance and finance experts, including FCPA Rose Mwaura, CPA Phares Chege of
Kenya Revenue Authority, CPA Prof. Peter Kariuki and CPA Bonface Mbaabu of PwC.
Participants emphasized the growing role of Artificial
Intelligence and big data analytics in modern risk management and called on
universities to continuously update academic programmes to match global
financial and governance trends.
