President Ruto to deliver special National Address at 7pm

The alert hinted that President Ruto's address would focus on charting the way forward for the nation's development and the gains achievable under an ambitious vision.

This comes a week after he received a report dubbed 'Developing a New National Vision: Journey to a First World Economy'.

The report lays the foundation for the successor to Vision 2030, the blueprint that has guided national planning and economic policy since it came into effect in 2008.

President Ruto said he was impressed by the many issues the report raises on the strategic direction the country has already begun pursuing, including the establishment of the National Infrastructure Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund.

"These institutions form part of a broader strategy that is already guiding Kenya’s long-term transformation into a competitive first-world country," he said while receiving the report in State House.

He pointed out that the government will study the report's proposals carefully and invited Kenyans to submit their views.

Likewise, it also comes against a backdrop of intensifying political activity as the country edges toward the 2027 General Election, with realignments, defections, and succession battles already reshaping the landscape more than a year out from the polls.

It also lands amid growing public concern over insecurity, an issue that has dominated national conversation in recent weeks and one Kenyans will be watching to see whether the President addresses.

The timing further coincides with sustained speculation about the state of Ruto's working relationship with his deputy, Kithure Kindiki.

A section of the media reported this week that the Deputy President's office had been stripped of its intergovernmental coordination role, functions said to have been reassigned to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Kindiki dismissed the reports as fake news in a brief statement on his X account on Monday, and on Wednesday night posted photographs of a private one-on-one meeting with Ruto at State House in an apparent effort to project unity.

The speculation has gained momentum since the ruling UDA party's loss in the Ol Kalou by-election, with some Ruto allies openly questioning whether Kindiki should remain his running mate in 2027.
