KCA University marked its 20th anniversary by conferring degrees, diplomas and certificates to more than 2,900 graduates while unveiling a Korean Language Centre aimed at expanding international education and employment opportunities for Kenyan students.
The
milestone 20th graduation ceremony, held at the university's Ruaraka campus
celebrated the institution's growth from a specialised accountancy college into
a multidisciplinary university.
Speaking
during the ceremony, Chancellor Dr. Martin Oduor-Otieno said the anniversary
reflected the university's contribution to Kenya's higher education sector over
the past two decades.
"We
take pride in acknowledging the immense growth this institution has had over
the years. When you mark 20 years, that remains a milestone in the history of
this university. It goes to show how much the institution has contributed to
the progress of the education sector in the country," he said.
Vice-Chancellor
Prof. Isaiah I.C. Wakindiki challenged the graduates to become ethical leaders
and entrepreneurs capable of creating employment in an increasingly competitive
labour market.
"Lead
with integrity, and make a tremendous transformation by turning setbacks into
milestones. Education is not only for employment; it equips one with skills and
empowers students not only to seek employment, but to create it for others as
well," he said.
The
graduating class included master's, undergraduate, diploma and professional
certificate students, with outstanding learners recognised for academic
excellence, leadership and creativity.
A
key highlight of the ceremony was the launch of the Korean Language Centre by
the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Kenya, Kang Hyung-shik.
The
centre is expected to equip students with Korean language skills, opening
access to scholarships, academic exchanges and employment opportunities in
South Korea.
"The
setting up of the Korean Language Centre at KCA University is one of the key
steps that will contribute to the strengthening of diplomatic ties between
Kenya and the Republic of Korea. This initiative will help in expanding
opportunities for Kenyan students in the global market," the Ambassador
said.
The
university said the centre will also serve as a hub for cultural exchange and
academic collaboration, reinforcing growing education ties between Kenya and
South Korea.
University
leaders urged the graduates to uphold the institution's values and use their
knowledge and skills to drive innovation, create jobs and contribute to Kenya's
socio-economic development.
