Kalonzo terms Ruto's vision 2060 a 'political deception'

Speaking during a church service at St Peter's ACK Cathedral in Embu, Kalonzo said the government should first uphold constitutionalism and the rule of law before unveiling long-term development blueprints.

He said millions of Kenyans were grappling with the high cost of living, unemployment and inflation, and that the country needed immediate interventions rather than promises stretching decades into the future.

Kalonzo argued that the objectives of the current Vision 2030 agenda were yet to be fully realised, making the launch of a new Vision 2060 framework premature and unrealistic.

The Wiper leader also dismissed claims that the opposition is being financed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, insisting Kenyatta is merely a principal in the Azimio coalition. He alleged that the Kenya Kwanza administration could use state institutions, including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), to intimidate and harass the former head of state.

On opposition politics, Kalonzo said coalition leaders were holding consultations and would soon agree on a single presidential flag bearer to challenge Ruto in the next General Election.

He condemned lawmakers accused of taking bribes to support the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, arguing that any leader found culpable should be barred from public office for violating the integrity provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Turning to the Mt Kenya region, Kalonzo dismissed remarks attributed to Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, insisting the region would remain united, just as the rest of the country should stay cohesive.

Leaders accompanying Kalonzo urged opposition principals to consolidate their support ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying a united front would pose a formidable challenge to Ruto's re-election bid. They also accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of repeatedly violating the Constitution, arguing the country needed leadership that respects the rule of law and protects democratic institutions.
