Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced that Nyali MP Mohamed Ali will receive a direct ticket from the United Opposition to contest the Mombasa gubernatorial seat in the 2027 polls.

Speaking during a rally in Mombasa on Saturday, Kalonzo said the decision had been reached in consultation with other opposition leaders, positioning Mohamed Ali alias Jicho Pevu, as their preferred candidate for the coastal county’s top job.

The Wiper leader said Mohamed Ali’s track record in exposing corruption makes him a suitable candidate to lead Mombasa, adding that the coalition was united in backing his bid.

The Nyali MP is widely known for his investigative journalism work before joining politics, where he built a reputation for highlighting corruption and governance issues.

The announcement signals early political alignments ahead of the next general election, with opposition figures rallying behind candidates in key counties.
