Kabras Sugar
will be aiming to stretch their Kenya Cup dominance to five titles on the trot
when the 2025/2026 begins in November, assistant coach Edwin Achayo has said.
According to
Achayo, the Millers’ 15s players are penciled to resume pre-season next month
to embark on their preparations ahead of the new season expected to kick off in
November.
"The season
will kick-off in November which should be the last week of that month,” he
said. “Ideally we are aware that it will be very difficult to keep beating
everyone and avoiding defeats because everyone will want to try and stop us.
But we maintain
the spirit and the target, to win the matches, avoid defeats and lift the Kenya
Cup title again,"Achayo said.
Kabras lifted
their fourth Kenya Cup title in a row in April thanks to a hard fought 27-26
win over Menengai Oilers at the Kakamega ASK Showground.
Majority of the
Kabras players have been away in Uganda with Kenya Simbas in the 2025 Rugby
Africa Cup campaign hence will be given more days to rest before joining the
team.
"Pre-season
is yet to commence because the majority of our players have been with the
national team in Uganda for the Rugby Africa Cup.
This means that
they will definitely need additional days to rest. The team will resume at the
beginning of next month to start pre-season safe for those who have been in
Uganda with the Kenya Simbas", Achayo concluded.
Kabras Sugar
have positioned themselves as the heartbeat of Kenyan rugby and it will take
extra effort and hard work to dethrone them from the helm of local game.
Particularly their arch rivals KCB and Oilers will have to dig deep to dethrone
the Western Kenya based team from the top.
