The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has launched the New Generation Aircraft Recovery System at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), a cutting-edge equipment designed to enhance the airport's emergency response capabilities.

Supplied by AMS Aircraft Recovery Ltd of the United Kingdom, the system will minimise operational disruptions and enhance incident response times.

It also features the latest advancements in aircraft lifting and recovery technology, including over-wing lift tooling designed for rapid deployment during incidents involving disabled aircraft on runways and taxiways.

This capability is essential for maintaining operational continuity, reducing flight delays, and safeguarding airport infrastructure and passenger safety.

While presiding over the launch, KAA chairman Caleb Kositany expressed confidence that the new system marked a major milestone for the nation's aviation sector.

“This state-of-the-art system, the only one of its kind in the region, marks a major milestone not just for KAA but for Kenya’s aviation sector as a whole," he stated.

"This equipment will now allow us to respond faster, more safely, and more effectively in such situations, reducing delays, protecting lives and assets, and ensuring continuity in operations."

The launch event was also graced by KAA Acting Managing Director and CEO Nicholas Bodo and AMS Managing Director Yehuda Fishman.

Others include representatives from key aviation stakeholders including the Kenya Association of Air Operators (KAAO), Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
