Jubilee introduces instalment-based health insurance payments to widen access

Under the model, customers can activate health insurance cover after making an initial payment and settle the remaining premium in up to 10 monthly instalments. The initiative targets individuals, families, first-time insurance buyers and small and medium-sized enterprises employing between three and 50 people.

The insurer said entry-level plans start at KSh3,256 per month, providing KSh200,000 in inpatient cover and KSh40,000 in outpatient benefits, while higher-tier packages offer inpatient cover of up to KSh10 million.

Jubilee Health Insurance Chief Executive Officer Njeri Jomo said the initiative seeks to address affordability barriers that continue to limit uptake of private health insurance, noting that many households are unable to meet annual premium payments despite recognising the value of medical cover.

The rollout will begin in Nairobi through a community outreach campaign before expanding to other parts of the country.

Insurance Regulatory Authority Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer Godfrey Kiptum said flexible payment models that reflect consumers' cash-flow patterns could help improve insurance penetration, particularly among informal sector workers and underserved households.

The initiative forms part of Jubilee Health's strategy to expand its customer base, with the insurer targeting one million insured lives by the end of 2027.
