Two police officers linked to the killing of Shukri Adan Ibrahim in Mukuru kwa Njenga are set to face murder charges after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions approved their prosecution, following investigations by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

The taking of plea, which was expected to proceed after the conclusion of IPOA investigations, was on Thursday postponed after IPOA’s lawyer, Kevin Lusweti, informed the court that the High Court judge scheduled to hear the matter was indisposed and therefore unable to sit.

Presiding magistrate Caroline Nyaguthii agreed that the matter be mentioned virtually on a later date to allow for the closure of a miscellaneous file that had been opened to facilitate investigations by the oversight body.

Sergeant Godwin Mjomba and Constable Patrick Mutunga Titus are expected to be arraigned before Milimani High Court Judge Martin Muya to answer to murder charges arising from the incident.

According to preliminary findings presented by IPOA, Shukri Adan Ibrahim was shot while lying on the ground, sustaining a single gunshot wound to the head. The bullet exited from the back of his head, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators further told the court that the body was later taken to Takwa Mosque in Mukuru kwa Njenga, where a post-mortem examination was conducted. The autopsy confirmed the cause of death as a penetrating gunshot injury to the head.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has urged the court to fast-track the case, expressing concern that repeated adjournments risk delaying justice in the matter.
