The Linda Mwananchi movement has raised the alarm over what it claims is a plan to disrupt its Homa Bay rally this Sunday.

The movement accuses some Nyanza leaders of allegedly holding secret meetings to mobilise goons and arm them ahead of the rally.

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi said: “They are planning to have goons hide under a voter registration exercise near Kabunde Airport to block us. They are also planning to block the bridges leading to Homa Bay town and have goons camp at the hotel where we will be staying the night before the rally.”

The leaders say they have shared audio recordings of the alleged plans with security agencies. They are now calling on Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to act.

“The IG is aware. We shared the audio with him of what is being planned in Homa Bay, and we call on him to make sure that the rally will be peaceful and everyone will be safe. IG, protect the lives of the people of Homa Bay,” said Caroli.

The movement also questioned what it described as growing political intolerance in Nyanza.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino said: “In Nyanza, we are being hunted like wild animals. What is happening in Nyanza? People of Homa Bay, turn out in large numbers. We are coming.”

Siaya Governor James Orengo, addressing another press conference in Kisumu, said: “I want to assure the people of Homa Bay that if the police cannot protect the people who will come to the rally, we are also prepared to make sure everyone who turns up at the rally is safe.”

The Homa Bay rally is expected to bring together Linda Mwananchi supporters and political leaders as the movement seeks to popularise itself across the country.
