Ian Simiyu sets sights on trophies after inspiring Tusker past Gor Mahia

Tusker FC striker Ian Simiyu has set his sights on a trophy-laden season after helping the Brewers beat Gor Mahia 3-1 to lift the FKF Super Cup.

Simiyu scored Tusker's third goal as they secured the title on Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium, giving the club an early boost ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking to Citizen Digital after the final, Simiyu said his priority is to help Tusker compete for and win all available titles while also improving his individual performances.

The forward acknowledged that inconsistency affected his performance last season and has identified becoming the league's top scorer among his key targets for the new campaign.

“My target is to help the team win all the available local titles. I am also setting my sights on becoming the league's top scorer, top assister, or even both. My setback last season was inconsistency, so this season I want to be consistent and keep moving forward,” he said.

Simiyu will also have the chance to test himself on the continental stage after Tusker secured a place in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The striker says featuring in the continental competition is particularly important to him, having long dreamed of playing in the CAF club competition.

With domestic and continental football ahead, Simiyu is hoping to build on Sunday's performance and play a key role as Tusker chase silverware on multiple fronts.
