Family FC’s sudden withdrawal from the National Super League has triggered a
major reset for the 2025/2026 campaign, with far-reaching consequences for the
standings just halfway into the season.
MCF pulled out of the
league after playing 18 matches, falling short of completing the first leg.
Under FKF competition
rules, the decision means all their first-leg results will be nullified.
Points gained or
dropped by other teams against MCF will be erased, effectively rewriting part
of the league table as the NSL heads into its decisive phase.
Before exiting the
competition, MCF’s season had been a difficult one.
They managed four
victories against 3K FC, MOFA FC, Luanda Villa and Mwatate United, offering
brief flashes of competitiveness.
They also recorded
draws against Nairobi City Stars, Nzoia Sugar FC, Kabati Youth and Fortune
Sacco. However, consistency proved elusive, with the club losing the remaining
ten matches and struggling to find momentum.
The final straw came
when MCF failed to travel for their last first-leg fixture against Gucha Stars
in Kisii, a no-show that underlined the depth of the club’s challenges. Shortly
after, the club formally wrote to the Football Kenya Federation informing them
of the decision to withdraw from the league.
FKF is yet to issue an
official response.
In a further blow, MCF
has disbanded its squad following the withdrawal. Players are set to receive
two months’ salary as compensation, bringing an abrupt end to their involvement
in the current season.
The development leaves
the NSL grappling with both logistical and competitive implications, as teams
now await a recalibrated table.
For MCF, the
withdrawal closes a turbulent chapter, while for the league, it serves as a
reminder of the financial and structural pressures facing clubs in Kenya’s
second tier.
