Homegrown African beauty brands are gaining recognition as consumers increasingly embrace locally developed products, with Somali fragrance company WARA Fragrance emerging as a leading example after winning two major honours at the 2026 Somali Business Awards.

WARA was named Business of the Year 2026 and Best Perfume Brand of the Year 2026, following a three-month public voting campaign.

The double recognition highlights the growing profile of African-owned businesses in the region’s fragrance and beauty market, where WARA has built its reputation around distinctive fragrances, product quality and a strong African brand identity.

WARA CEO and Co-Founder Abdirahman Hussein Mohamed said the awards demonstrate the confidence consumers have placed in the brand.

“Winning through an online public voting process makes this achievement even more meaningful because it reflects the trust and support of the people who believe in our brand.”

Mohamed said the company intends to use the recognition as a springboard for wider expansion.

“This is not the finish line; it is another step toward taking WARA to Africa and ultimately to the world.”

The company’s growing customer base and regional presence point to the potential of homegrown African brands to build strong identities and compete within the beauty and fragrance industry.
