A family from Kaborus village, Kericho County spent a night in the cold after irate members of the public burnt down their home over claims of engaging in acts of witchcraft.

The villagers claim the woman of the house was allegedly found performing witchcraft-like acts at the girls' toilets of a neighbouring school last month.

They claimed that the woman was in possession of paraphernalia suspected to have been used in witchcraft acts.

The woman was found by school girls who had visited the toilets and raised the alarm which attracted the attention of the teachers and learners in the school.

The woman attempted to run to her safety but the irate members of the public chased and caught up with her. She was assaulted before being rescued by police officers from Ainamoi police station.

The woman was rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital and discharged after recovery.

However irate villagers warned her against ever setting her foot in the village again.

Last night, an irate mob surrounded her home and burnt it to ashes.

Members of the family who were at home were forced to flee for safety.

As a result of the incident, nothing was salvaged from the houses but lucky enough, nobody sustained any injuries.
