The Homa Bay County Referral Hospital is seeking a court order to dispose of 15 unclaimed bodies that have been lying at the hospital mortuary.

The hospital’s management says the unclaimed bodies, including 9 males and six females, have been lying uncollected in the mortuary for more than six months now.

According to public health officer at the facility Ms. Lilian Otieno, the unclaimed bodies were taken at the morgue by police officers from various parts of the county.

Speaking on Monday at the facility, Ms. Otieno said some of the deceased died as a result of road accident, some killed and their bodies dumped while other bodies were retrieved from the river and taken to the mortuary.

She stated that the facility has issued a 14-day notice to the general public before they dispose of them.

The management of the health facility will seek court order to give them a green light to bury the bodies in a mass grave if no one comes out to claim within in a period of 14 days.
