An official at Homa Bay County government has been charged in court for assaulting and injuring People Daily reporter Habil Onyang’o Oloo.

The accused, Beatrice Mercy Akugo, who is the Homa Bay County Human Resource Manager, was charged on Tuesday with assault and causing bodily harm to a journalist.

“The court heard that the accused committed the offence on September 14, 2025, at Lake Front in Homa Bay Sub-County,” stated the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Appearing before Homa Bay Law Court Chief Magistrate Jacinta Orwa, the county official pleaded not guilty to charges levelled against her.

She was then released on a Ksh.30,000 bond with a surety of the same amount or an alternative cash bail of Ksh.20,000.

The case will be mentioned on September 30, 2025.
