Hinga stars as Shell Stoni Athi Autocross delivers high-speed action

Michuki Hinga emerged as the standout performer among the Shell-sponsored drivers after winning the 2WD Non-Turbo Senior Car category during Round Five of the 2026 Shell Autocross Rally at Stoni Athi.

Hinga clocked an impressive 10:39 minutes to take top honors in the senior 2WD non-turbo class, finishing ahead of Adriano Varese, who recorded 11:45 minutes, while Tariq Rashid completed the top three in 12:11 minutes.

The result highlighted a strong showing by Hinga as drivers battled demanding conditions at Stoni Athi in a competition that tested speed, precision, consistency, and machine preparation.

Among the other Shell-supported competitors, Tinashe Gatimu competed in the highly competitive 4WD Turbo Car Restrictor class, finishing third with a time of 20:46 minutes. He was preceded by Ankush Shah, who won the class in 9:41 minutes, and Amaan Ganatra, who was second in 9:49 minutes.

The event also featured a wide range of junior and senior categories, providing competitors of different ages and experience levels with an opportunity to showcase their driving skills.

In the Alpha Junior Buggy category, Myles O’Neal emerged victorious after posting 26:05 minutes.

The Beta Junior Non-Turbo Buggy class saw Allan Bengi take first place in 12:29 minutes, followed by Sean Njumbi in 13:14 minutes and Mohamed Rayyan in 25:08 minutes.

In the Cadet Junior Non-Turbo Buggy category, Eann Bengi topped the standings in 10:43 minutes. Andrea Tundo was second in 11:03 minutes, while Aayan Azim completed the podium in 11:10 minutes.

The Senior Non-Turbo Buggy category was won by Nazim Shah, who posted 11:28 minutes. Leo Kangethe finished second in 12:12 minutes, with Amal Shah third in 14:07 minutes.

In the 2WD Non-Turbo Junior Car class, Muzammil Mohamed was the sole recorded competitor and secured victory with a time of 11:08 minutes.

The Open Class provided another closely contested battle, with Javed Lota taking first place in 9:45 minutes. Junaid Shah followed in 9:56 minutes, while Ahil Khan finished third in 10:17 minutes.

The Stoni Athi round also provided a platform for the Shell-sponsored drivers to demonstrate the importance of preparation, technical reliability and driver skill in autocross competition.

Hinga's victory was particularly significant for the Shell-backed contingent, while the participation of Tinashe Gatimu added further interest to the 4WD Turbo Car Restrictor category.

The Shell Autocross Rally continues to provide a platform for Kenyan motorsport talent, bringing together established competitors, junior drivers, mechanics, teams and fans.

The championship also gives young drivers an opportunity to gain valuable competitive experience as they develop their skills.

The Stoni Athi round was the fifth round of the 2026 championship, with the season continuing through November.

As the competition intensifies, drivers will now turn their attention to the remaining rounds in the battle for overall championship honours.
