According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers from the Serious Crime Unit, in collaboration with the Commission for University Education (CUE), moved in following intelligence reports that an unaccredited institution was in the process of awarding academic qualifications.
Suspects, identified as the institution’s president, Daniel Dela, board members John Kibet, Philomena Milano, and Ann Ogola Owiti, alongside Jason Oduor and Michael Ochieng, were arrested.
DCI says organisers linked to Menorah Training Institute and Dominion Mission Theological University Global, an institution reportedly based in Ghana, failed to produce mandatory accreditation documents from CUE.
Preliminary investigations further established that Menorah Training Institute is registered with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) and is only authorised to offer courses up to diploma level.
On looking at the graduation list, detectives found that five individuals were listed to graduate with master’s degrees while 17 others were set to receive degree certificates; qualifications that the institution is neither licensed nor authorised to award.
The suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting arraignment.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrolling, warning that shortcuts in education often lead to dead ends.
