Suspected
bandits on Thursday evening attacked Napeitom village in Turkana East
sub-county, killing two people among them a Grade 2 pupil.
According
to Sylvester Lobuin, an ECD teacher at Napeitom Primary School, the group of
about 20 armed bandits stormed the institution and started shooting aimlessly.
The
school boy was hit and died on the spot,
as another group of attackers also shot dead a middle-aged woman in the
village.
The
bandits are then said to have taken off with over 130 shoats (sheep and goats)
and fled.
Turkana
East Member of Parliament Ali Mohamed Lokiru condemned the incident terming it as
unfortunate, further blaming the government for inadequately facilitating
Napeitom Police Post.
"There
are only 2 policemen in Napeitom, they were overpowered by bandits…we want the
Inspector General of Police to intervene over this sporadic, well-calculated
attacks that aims to scuttle the peace process," said the legislator.
Turkana
County Commissioner Muthama Wambua, speaking to the press in Lodwar, said
patrols have been intensified in Turkana South and East to pursue the bandits.
The
bodies of the deceased are still lying at Napeitom awaiting transportation to
Lodwar mortuary for postmortem.
The
attack followed a similar one in Kainuk, Turkana South, in the wee hours of
Wednesday night where over 3000 shoats were stolen and have not been recovered
since.
